City of Decatur Parks & Recreation Master Plan
Owner: City of Decatur | Services: Condition Assessment, Cost Estimating
Axias was a key part of the team led by Perez Planning + Design to work with the City of Decatur’s (Georgia) Parks and Recreation Master Plan. Axias’ role included conducting condition assessments of over 130,000 square feet of recreation facilities and more than 17 parks, totaling over 196 acres.
Facilities assessed as part of the master plan included activity and recreation centers, indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities, children’s splash pads, and an indoor gym. The assessment also included 17 city parks featuring rails, basketball courts, dog parks, recreation fields, picnic pavilions, a tennis center, green space, and a community greenspace for urban agriculture.
Axias’ condition assessment focused on identifying deferred maintenance and capital renewal needs and collaborating with the planning team and the city to develop a long-term capital improvement plan focusing on environmental impact, clean energy use, and resilience. Axias also built a series of dashboards in PowerBI, allowing the Parks and Recreation department to quickly digest the study results, track progress, and communicate outcomes with the community.
