Guilford County Parks & Recreation Master Plan

Owner: Guilford County | Services: Condition Assessment, Cost Estimating

Guilford County, in the North Carolina Piedmont region, includes several major cities, such as Greensboro and High Point, with a population exceeding 500,000 residents. The County parks system features seven regional parks (five operated by the County), ten passive parks, over 60 miles of trails and greenways, and 4,500 acres of open space. These park facilities attract more than 700,000 visitors annually.

Axias was engaged as part of the master planning team led by McAdams to conduct a complete facilities inventory and condition assessment of the County parks, recreation facilities, greenways, and public open spaces. The assessment included Rich Fork Preserve, Guilford County Farm Park, Richardson Taylor Preserve, Bur-Mil Park Meeting and Event Centers, Gibson Park, Hagan Stone Park, Northeast Park, and Southwest Park.

The Parks Department is utilizing the FCA data to develop a prioritized comprehensive maintenance management plan as part of the overall parks and recreation master plan. This effort involves data collection, review of relevant planning documents, and assessment of existing parks, trails, and recreation resources. The assessment data, when integrated with community feedback, will guide the project into the vision phase. This inclusive approach ensures that the high-level vision and goals effectively address identified gaps, meet future needs, and enhance the environmental, social, and economic benefits of the park system, reflecting the values and needs of the community.
