Smithsonian | Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden

Owner: Smithsonian Institution | Services: Cost Estimating

Since the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden opened in 1974, its collection and programs have grown and evolved, establishing the Hirshhorn as one of the country’s most visited modern art museums. The campus underwent transformative improvements, including repairs to the Museum building envelope and the revitalization of the Sculpture Garden.

Axias was engaged to support a series of projects as part of this revitalization. Our team provided cost estimates for building envelope repair design, addressing issues with moisture infiltration and poor thermal performance around the perimeter of the exterior wall. Axias also provided cost estimates for revitalizing the sunken sculpture garden, including structural repairs to the tunnel linking the museum to the garden. Axias provided cost estimates for other program elements, including elevator replacements and loading dock reconfiguration.
