Arlington County Lubber Run Community Center
Owner: Arlington County | Services: Cost Estimating
In 2016, Arlington County Parks and Recreation selected VMDO to design a 50,000-square-foot community center to replace the original 1950s-era building. The design process emphasized community input, sustainability, and enhanced outdoor recreation and amenity spaces on its 4.5-acre site. The project was completed in 2020, achieved LEED For Communities Platinum certification, and was recognized as a net-zero facility. Net-zero sustainable design features include a green roof, a geothermal system, photovoltaic panels, a gray and black water storage/treatment system, and bio-filter treatment areas.
The finished facility is celebrated as a true community project due to ongoing community engagement throughout the design process. Axias was engaged during the conceptual design phase to provide cost estimates to aid in budget decision making and approvals.
