Meridian High School
Location: Falls Church, VA
Owner: Falls Church City Public Schools
Size: 290,000 SF
Axias Role: Project Management, Cost Management
This new six-story high school (formerly called George Mason High School) took shape on a site adjacent to the city’s middle school over the course of 2.5 years under a design-build contract with Stantec, Quinn Evans Architects, and Gilbane Building Company.
The building, which accommodates up to 1,500 students, features a variety of spaces that emphasize flexibility, visual transparency, and natural daylighting. Sustainability was a driving force in the design, which adheres to LEED Gold and Net Zero Ready standards.
Surrounding the school are new tennis courts, a turf multi-purpose field, and softball field. Parking was reconfigured, and new walkways connect the middle and high school athletic fields.
Partnered with Brailsford & Dunlavey to provide owner's rep services, Axias served as the cost project manager through the design and pre-construction phases of the project, and provided on-site project management since August 2019.
