Morris County Courthouse
Owner: Morris County, New Jersey | Services: Cost Estimating
Originally built in 1827, the historic Morris County courthouse complex consists of multiple connected buildings. The courthouse underwent three renovations before 1900, with additional modifications made between 1950 and 1970. As the county grew and needs evolved, circulation issues and discontinuity of accessible routes prompted a space needs assessment study, ultimately leading to the decision to design and construct a new facility. The county freeholders awarded the design contract to AECOM.
Axias initially prepared a high-level concept cost estimate for the proposed new modern courthouse. The design involves an approximately 119,000-square-foot project offering eight new courtrooms, a jury assembly room, meeting rooms, security areas, and a secured, three-story glass entrance foyer. Following initial design approval by the County Freeholders, Axias, then prepared cost estimates for schematic design through construction documents.
