Since 2014, Axias has supported various prime contractors to the National Park Service by providing cost estimating services during the pre-design, design, and construction documentation phases for 80+ projects totaling thousands of acres and $100+ million in construction costs. High-profile sites have included Ellis and Liberty Islands, Carlsbad Caverns, Badlands National Park, the Lincoln Memorial, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and the Appalachian Trail. The firms with which we have had the opportunity to work on these renovation and restoration projects include WSP, Beyer Blinder Belle, HDR, Stantec, WRT, and Croft & Associates.
Under our GSA schedule, Axias was awarded a project to perform a condition assessment at the Charlestown Navy Yard, a National Historic Landmark and unit of Boston National Historical Park. The project scope encompassed nine buildings, including museums, maintenance facilities, offices and two residential buildings. We compiled a list of defects found in each building, collated, and prioritized remedial actions, and then developed a scope of work for each project with accompanying cost estimates. This allowed NPS to bundle projects, determine budgets and schedules, and allocate the required funding.
In July 2021, we won our first prime contract with NPS. The 12-month contract, which has four one-year extension options, is for conducting comprehensive condition assessments of NPS concession facilities nationwide. These include lodging, restaurants, housing, transportation, golf courses, and marinas.
NPS will identify the specific requirements of each project in separate call orders issued under the blanket project agreement. The condition assessment we undertake will produce detailed information on asset life cycles, maintenance, and component renewal tasks and costs required for NPS to maintain facilities over the terms of their concession contracts.
