The Biggs Museum of American Art Expansion
Owner: Biggs Museum of American Art | Services: Cost Estimating
The Biggs Museum of American Art in Dover, Delaware, is planning a significant expansion to enhance its offerings and better serve the community. In 2021, the museum acquired two historic buildings adjacent to its current location. These buildings, known as the Kirk and Short Building, were built in 1859 and are listed in the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Dover Green Historic District.
The museum is currently in a planning phase to determine the best use of these newly acquired spaces. The goal is to integrate the historic properties into the museum’s programming, expanding public interpretation and understanding of Delaware’s rich historical, cultural, political, and artistic history. This expansion, anticipated to take four years, is expected to increase the museum’s physical space and enhance its educational offerings and public programs. Axias was engaged as part of the design team, providing early conceptual cost estimates for the renovation program.
