Owner: University of Virginia | Services: Cost Estimating & Scheduling

The University of Virginia Hospital (UVA Health) is a nationally recognized academic medical center located in Charlottesville, Virginia. It is part of UVA Health, which is affiliated with the University of Virginia School of Medicine. The hospital is known for advanced patient care, cutting-edge research, and medical education.

Axias provided concept-level cost estimates and construction schedule for the façade replacement project at the University Hospital. The upper six stories of the building are clad with metal panels and have operable windows where UVA has experienced chronic wintertime condensation on the windows and ice accumulation leading to water intrusion through the metal-clad walls and windows. UVA commissioned a study to evaluate both short- and long-term repair options for the exterior walls.  Based on the study report and concept level drawings Axias produced concept level cost estimates for a base option to replace the metal panels, curtain wall and windows as well as an option for replacement of the panels only. Axias also prepared concept-level cost estimates and construction schedules for for both options. The schedules considered the merits of pipe scaffolding versus a mast climbers scaffold systems estimating the time required to perform each work task by elevation.
