Virginia Department of General Services

Owner: Virginia Department of General Services | Services: Cost Estimating, Value Engineering

Axias has worked with the Virginia Department of General Services for more than ten years, providing cost estimating, value engineering, and scheduling support for projects throughout the State.  Our work has included numerous projects, including correctional facilities, hospitals, the Virginia State Capitol Building, and several historic properties in Richmond.

The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), based in Richmond, Virginia, supports individuals by promoting recovery, self-determination, and overall wellness. DBHDS operates 12 facilities, several required upgrades or replacements for windows, fire alarm systems, and security or access controls. Axias was engaged to provide conceptual cost estimates for these improvements.

VA DGS tasked Axias with developing preliminary design cost estimates for a comprehensive renovation project of 87 restrooms in the existing hospital. The cost estimate was developed as a single project with premiums added to the cost estimated to account for working in an occupied hospital with contractors only able to work in one unoccupied restroom unit at a time.

The Virginia Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services (DCLS) is a state laboratory that provides scientific testing and analysis to support public health, environmental protection, and law enforcement in Virginia. Their primary facility houses multiple floors of labs and support spaces, many of which have bio-safety cabinets and hoods. DGS engaged Axias to provide a preliminary design cost estimate for a renovation project, renovating the CT Lab nitrogen system and replacing ductwork and fumehoods throughout the facility.
