Axias has supported several architecture firms on Department of State projects since 2014. Work has ranged from domestic assignments to cost estimating during design for renovations, additions, and replacement facilities at more than 30 U.S. consulates and embassies in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, administered through the Department’s Bureau of Overseas Building Operations.
OBO’s mission is to provide safe, secure, functional, and resilient facilities that represent the U.S. government to the host nation and support the Department’s achievement of U.S. foreign policy objectives abroad. These facilities represent American values and the best in American architecture, design, engineering, technology, sustainability, art, culture, and construction execution.
On the home front, one of our larger projects was the Potomac Hill master plan, led by WSP. It laid the groundwork for DOS’s consolidation of staff from numerous leased spaces in the District to one campus. Analyzed alternatives encompassed 900,000 square feet of renovated space, extensive site work, and security enhancements . In addition to cost estimating and life cycle cost analysis, we also provided return on investment analysis for each plan iteration and relocation option.
