RRRM engaged Axias to proving CIP Cost Estimating supporting the City of Alexandria Department of Transportation (DOT) The Alexandria DOT is responsible for managing and improving the transportation infrastructure within the City. They oversee a wide range of transportation services, including public transit, bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, street maintenance, and traffic management. The DOT Capital Improvement Plan includes multiple projects support the City’s goal of providing a safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation network that meets the needs of residents, businesses, and visitors.

 

Axias worked with the design team and the City of Alexandria to provide conceptual cost estimating for multiple roads and trail projects as part of the City’s capital planning efforts. These included.

  • The Holmes Run Trail Repair project, including several different sections of the Holmes Run Trail that were damaged by flooding. Axias provided cost estimates for the Replacement of a fair-weather crossing with a steel pedestrian and bicycle bridge as part of this larger project.

  • For the Landmark Mall Multi-Use Trail Project Axias prepared cost estimates for different components of this project so that the City understands the costs for each independently and can negotiate with the developer.

  • Axias provided rough order of magnitude cost estimates for construction of Duke Street Ramp Improvements where the northbound I-395 off-ramp to eastbound Duke Street is split, included escalating costs to an anticipated 2026 construction.

  • Cost estimates were also prepared for The Route 1 Metroway Extension from E. Glebe Road to Evans Lane including sidewalk improvements, a northbound station platform, and stormwater, sewer, utility, and lighting relocation.

  • Lastly, we provided design and construction cost estimates fort the South Van Dorn Street Widening project from Metro Road to McConnell Avenue. The widening project, forecasted for construction in 2028, will accommodate transit lanes and a multi-use path addition as well as a pedestrian / bike facility along the east side of South Van Dorn.
